What else were they going to say? They, for example, assume that "the historical Buddha" is a meaningful phrase. In what sense is the Buddha "historical" when we cannot link him to any historical event or fact. Rather, the Buddha is the protagonist in a series of religious stories, written by generations of religious fanatics who give up sex, family, work, eating after midday, and wearing trousers. | |
