Jul 28, 2014 at 11:32 | comment | added | konrad01 | My first retreat was in a Mahayana monastery, it was common for us to repeat "may I quickly become a Buddha in order to benefit all sentient beings" which is beautiful and touching. Many months after that, studying, I understood that the next samma-sambuddha Maytrea is already a Buddha, therefore the maximum one can achieve is being a private Buddha, but that would not help sentient beings as much as a full enlighted Buddha, so I inclined towards Theravada, we can and we should display loving kindness as practicioners to other beings, even without being an Arahant , bodhisattva or a Buddha. | |
