The Kegon philosophy is usually characterized as absolute Idealism or idealistic Pantheism , and the Tendai as absolute realism or realistic pantheism.

The Classification of Buddhism By Bruno Petzold, p448

I think I may have read this book, but I'm unclear from memory what the above means. How should one categorize the metaphyics of Tendai, especially in terms of 'realism'?

I know that Zhiyi claimed that every dharma realm (Gods, humans etc.) "includes" every other. But that he did not deny "emptiness"; presumably then every realm is also conceptual construction. How does this work out as "absolute realism"?
